The Hubble telescope entered space in 1990 with six gyroscopes for aiming and maintaining its stability. The United States used the space shuttle to perform the last maintenance of the Hubble telescope in 2009, and the astronauts replaced six new gyroscopes for the Hubble telescope. In general, the Hubble telescope has three gyroscopes that operate normally to maintain accurate observations, but even if only one gyroscope is in operation, the Hubble telescope will still work.
