Application of Inclination Sensor in Marine Transportation

Maritime transport, referred to as maritime transport, is a means of transport that uses ships to transport cargo and passengers through sea lanes. Marine transportation is one of the most important modes of transportation in international commodity exchange. The proportion of cargo transportation in total international cargo transportation is about 80%. It utilizes natural marine passages, and the tonnage of ships is generally unrestricted, with the advantages of large capacity and low cost. However, shipping is limited by geographical conditions and sometimes by seasons.

Marine transportation is carried out by means of natural waterways, which are not restricted by roads and tracks, and have stronger passing ability. With the changes in politics, economic and trade environment and natural conditions, the route can be adjusted and changed at any time to complete the transportation task. Ships are the main tool for maritime transport and can be powered by manpower, sails or motors. A wide variety of sensors are used on modern large transport vessels. The tilt sensor is one of the important sensors that can detect the attitude of the hull while driving.

The tilt sensor is usually mounted on a platform at a fixed position on the deck of the ship to measure the pitch and lateral tilt of the hull during travel. Since there is a danger of overturning when the hull exceeds a certain angle, the operator should be prompted when the angle of inclination is close to the maximum allowable angle, and the corresponding treatment needs to be made. If necessary, a forced stop operation should be made to ensure the ship. Safe navigation, especially in high winds, should use a tilt sensor that measures the tilt angle.
