‘Snow Dragon 2’ Went To China To Test The South China Sea

On August 15, China’s first self-built polar survey icebreaker “Snow Dragon 2” set sail from Shanghai and went to China’s South China Sea to carry out trial missions. After the trial is completed, the ship will jointly carry out the 36th Antarctic mission of China with the “Snow Dragon” ship.

The reporter learned that the trial is expected to be 36 days, divided into 4 segments, the main purpose is to complete the “Snow Dragon 2” scientific research deck support system, navigation observation equipment, underwater acoustic equipment, tow observation system, substrate Sediment survey sampling system, laboratory system and other survey sampling equipment performance test, and on-site acceptance of the above-mentioned scientific research equipment, carry out crew independent boat training skills training.

It is reported that “Xuelong 2” is affiliated to the China Polar Research Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources. It was jointly designed by AKER Arctic Company of Finland and the 708th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. Jiangnan Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. is responsible for construction and construction. The ship was officially delivered on July 11 this year after passing the routine sea trial in the East China Sea.

“Snow Dragon 2” has a length of 122.5 meters, a width of 22.32 meters, a designed displacement of 13,996 tons, an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles, and a self-sustaining power of 60 days. It can be used at a speed of 2 to 3 knots at an ice thickness of 1.5 meters and a snow thickness of 0.2 meters. Under continuous icebreaking. The “Snow Dragon 2” has the global navigation capability, can meet the requirements of the infinite navigation zone, and sail safely in the polar ocean. The ship adopts the international advanced two-way icebreaker design, with full-slewing electric propulsion function and collision and ice-breaking capability, which can realize 360° rotation in the polar zone.
