China Completes Deployment Of Beidou-3 Global System Core Constellation

On December 16, China successfully launched two "Big Dipper" at Xichang Satellite Launch Center "One Arrow and Two Stars", fully completing the deployment of the core constellation of the BeiDou-3 global system. So far, all 24 medium-circle earth orbit satellites of the Beidou-3 global system have been successfully launched.

So far, all 24 medium-circle earth orbit satellites of the Beidou-3 global system have been successfully launched. "This marks the completion of the deployment of the core constellation of the BeiDou-3 global system and the full realization of BeiDou's global service capabilities, which will provide global users with excellent performance navigation services," said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the BeiDou Satellite Navigation System.

The Beidou system is a global satellite navigation system independently constructed and operated by China. In 2009, the Beidou III global system construction was officially launched. It is understood that BeiDou-3 is composed of 3 geostationary orbit satellites, 3 tilted geosynchronous orbit satellites and 24 medium-circle earth orbit satellites.

"Medium circle earth orbit satellites are the main satellites of the Beidou-3 global system. According to our design, 24 satellites are evenly distributed on 3 orbital planes at an altitude of about 20,000 kilometers, with 8 orbital planes each." Wang Ping, chief designer of the satellite, said, "In this way, we can guarantee that we can see five or six satellites at any time anywhere in the world. This is also a prerequisite for China Beidou to provide global services."
