Development Prospect of Inertial Sensor

As far as the global development is concerned, the exiting sensor have been able to meet precision requirement of current various navigational tasks. The main aim of the future is to reduce the cost, volume/weight and power of device and so on, including the following aspects:

1. Material and technology, manufacturers adopt the low labor intensive production mode and  batch processing technology, and choose silicon, quartz or photoelectric material to manufacture inertial sensors.

2. Cost, including the cost of product itself and the cost of operation and maintenance, because of mass production, the cost of inertial sensor is decreasing greatly.

3. Volume, inertial measurement sensors are developing towards lightweight, miniaturization and miniaturization. Some new inertial sensors will not be identified by naked eye in the future, such as NEMS (Nano-Electro-Mechanical System) and optical NEMS.

Fourth, the research focuses: on the one hand, it focuses on the performance improvement and effective encapsulation of miniaturized MEMS inertial devices. On the other hand, it focuses on optical sensors, especially for the study of FOG integrated optics.

5. Expectation: at every precision level, the inertial sensors with small size and low price can be obtained.

The development of inertial sensors (gyroscope and accelerometer) directly determines the development and application of inertial navigation system. The cost, volume and power consumption of inertial sensors affect the corresponding parameters of inertial navigation system. Therefore, the development of inertial measurement sensors needs to weigh the following factors: accuracy, continuity, reliability, cost, volume / weight, power consumption.
