Liquid float gyro is a kind of gyro widely used in inertial navigation system. It belongs to frame gyro. Its high-speed gyro rotor is driven by gyro motor. The main feature of the liquid float gyroscope is that the rotor is sealed in the float ball (or float) filled with inert gas, and the float ball is suspended in the fluorine oil, through accurate static balance and temperature control, so that the buoyancy of the float ball and the gravity of the component are completely balanced, so as to ensure that the friction torque on the gem bearing used for the positioning of the float ball is reduced to a very small degree.

Liquid floating gyroscopes are usually classified according to different structures, working principles, functions, etc. The common classifications are as follows.

1) According to the number of precession degrees of freedom of the rotation axis, it is divided into: single degree of freedom liquid floating gyro and double degree of freedom liquid floating gyro.

2) According to the suspension support used, it is single or multiple: fluid floated gyroscope, dual-floated gyroscope (dynamic pressure air-floating rotor, liquid floating frame), three floats Trip-floated gyroscope (using dynamic pressure air-floating rotor, liquid floating frame, magnetic floating).

Characteristics and scope of application

Liquid float gyroscope has the advantages of high precision, high reliability and strong adaptability to the environment. However, the structure is complex and the production cost is high, so it is mainly suitable for carriers and systems with high precision requirements and harsh environmental conditions. Liquid float gyroscope is a kind of core sensor in inertial navigation control system, using the buoyancy generated by the float to reduce the weight of the float assembly on the support bearing, and finally achieve the purpose of improving the accuracy of the gyroscope, including the shell, float, torque, signal, float support bearing, bellows and so on. High temperature oil leakage or low temperature fluid accumulation is one of the main failure modes of liquid floating gyroscopes, which has been troubling the production of gyroscopes, and the accurate control of liquid accumulation of gyroscopes has become one of the scientific problems.

When the liquid floating gyroscope is working, the ambient temperature will change within a certain range (such as -40℃ ~ 60℃), and the internal volume of the gyroscope will also expand and contract with the change of the ambient temperature. In general, this change is compensated by the bellows inside the gyroscope. However, in the production process, generally filled with oil at normal temperature, the bellows are generally in a free open state, then the internal cavity volume of the gyroscope reaches the maximum or minimum, and the internal floating liquid volume of the gyroscope is controlled by pressurizing and observing the compression amount of the bellows before the end of the oil filling. This way of controlling the amount of floating liquid is relatively extensive, and it often occurs that the amount of floating liquid is large, and the expansion of floating liquid at high temperature causes the bellows to burst and leak, or the welding parts of components to crack and leak, or the amount of floating liquid is small, and the bellows are not compensated enough at low temperature. These conditions will lead to the gyroscope performance index unqualified.
