Gyro Characteristics

The figure shows the lever gyroscope used for the test. When the balance weight P makes the lever reach static equilibrium, the direction of the shaft can be maintained after the gyro D rotates. This is the fixed axis of the gyroscope.

If P is moved to the left for a short distance, under the condition that the gyro does not rotate, the lever will fall at the left end under the force of gravity, and the right end will rise, and the counterclockwise rotation will be generated on the vertical surface, but it will rotate on the top. Under the circumstance, the lever does not move up and down while keeping level, but counterclockwise on the horizontal surface (from the top down), which is the gyro's precession. The opposite is clockwise rotation.
